ISLE OF WIGHT v HEATHENS, PREVIEW

Wednesday September 20, 2017
CRADLEY have been dealt a further major blow ahead of Thursday’s trip to the Isle of Wight (7pm) with the news that fans’ favourite Danny Ayres has has been ruled out on medical grounds for the remainder of the season.

The 31-year-old has been suffering with illness for the past few weeks and after seeking medical advice, has now been signed off from racing until further notice.

It leaves the Motor Market Heathens scrambling around for a late guest replacement for yet another away fixture which will again see them track a severely depleted team.

Club Chairman Nigel Pearson explained: “The news came as a bitter blow and it means our nightmare run of luck continues.

“But that’s irrelevant in a situation like this and I hope our fans will agree. It is a very difficult time for Danny right now and while it is not our position to go into detail, he has been ruled out of racing by a professional on medical grounds.

“I’m sure everyone will join myself and the rest of the management in sending Danny our very best wishes and we really do hope he gets over his illness sooner rather than later.

“Team manager Will Pottinger is now doing everything within his power to try and secure a guest for Danny for Thursday, but due to the geographical location of the Isle of Wight and the logistics of getting there and back, finding a rider at this late hour is proving very difficult.

“As soon as we know more on the No.1 situation, we will inform our supporters straight away.

“Tom Perry and Tyler Govier are still sidelined through injury while both Richard Hall and Conor Dwyer are unavailable.

“We’ve got the talented Josh Bailey in as a guest for Tom with keen youngsters William O’Keefe and Jamie Bursill coming in at six and seven.

“It means that we go to the Island with just two of our regular riders and we fully understand the frustration of our supporters.

“We also acknowledge that this is not in the best interests of the sport and it is a dreadful position for our club to be in again in what has been a testing couple of weeks.”
